Climate Neutral Event
The action program Climate Neutral Events aims at supporting companies and organizations to arrange sustainable events, with the foremost purpose of minimizing the events’ climate impact.
A climate Neutral Event serves as a good example from a climate perspective, contributes to the company’s total sustainability work and strengthens the company’s overall market position.
The organizer of a Climate Neutral Event shall:
-
Inform the participants that the event is climate neutral, and encourage sustainable traveling in connection to the event.
-
Implement measures to minimize the event’s greenhouse gas emissions, both during set-up, conduction and dismantling of the event.
-
Calculate the climate impact caused by the event.
-
Offset remaining emissions. Offsetting is made by supporting international CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects. The projects result in reduced energy consumption or a shift to renewable energy sources in developing countries. The projects are based on the Kyoto Protocol and are controlled and certified by the United Nations. In addition to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the projects lead to social benefits to the local community.
